What is talkObjectivism?
TalkObjectivism is a podcast and blog for radicals of reason. Its purpose is to serve as a forum for those interested in Ayn Rand’s philosophy of rational selfishness: Objectivism. On the podcast, we discuss how reason can be applied to various aspects of our lives, in both personal and political matters. It was founded so that we may learn and grow as Objectivists (or students of Objectivism) and help others in the process. We are by no means experts on philosophy, but we are radicals for reason.

Although we support The Ayn Rand Institute, we have no official affiliation and do not speak on its behalf nor as authorities of Objectivism. We encourage everyone to think for themselves and accept the conclusions that they understand to be true.

Where can I find out more about Objectivism?
The best way to learn about Ayn Rand’s philosophy of Objectivism is to read and study her works. Her philosophy is brilliantly presented in the novels The Fountainhead and Atlas Shrugged as well as in her non-fiction. Ms. Rand’s works can be purchased from most bookstores, including those online such as The Ayn Rand Bookstore, which also offers lectures and literature from other Objectivist intellectuals. Dr. Peikoff’s courses on Objectivism are especially superb and extremely helpful for gaining a deeper understanding of the philosophy.

The Ayn Rand Institute offers other great resources as well. Here is an essay introducing Objectivism as well as a suggested reading list from its website. The website also contains a variety of articles applying the philosophy of Objectivism to current events. Registered users will gain access to The Ayn Rand Multimedia Library & The ARI Lecture Series. And for those interested in a more academic approach, ARI’s Objectivist Academic Center provides classes on philosophy, thinking, and communication.

Another great way to improve your understanding of Objectivism is to discuss philosophical issues with others. You can do this with people you know, participating on talkObjectivism, or others forums on the internet. While it is often helpful to discuss philosophical issues to gain a better understanding, it’s important to recognize that it is not a substitute for serious thought and study. Those on forums are usually not experts or authorities on Objectivism and one should always look to the works, and reality, for themselves.
